Do you really burn fat in the water?

Absolutely! You are actually accomplishing two major fitness goals:

  • you are getting your cardio vascular (fat burning) workout and
  • using the resistance of the water to condition and tone your muscles - burning additional fat.

Can I just "drop-in" to a class?

Normally our classes are very full and do not have room for drop-ins. Please either arrive early to the class and ask the instructor or call the office to check on space availability.

Why is Aquarobics the best water fitness program?

This company is constantly challenging the participant's body by altering the program:

  • throwing out old routines and producing new ones
  • always changing the sequence of exercises
  • constantly producing new music
  • diversifying the tempo and choreography
  • creating new exercises (under the guidance of a physical therapists)

The Aquarobics program is devised strategically to keep your mind and body challenged.

  • Aquarobics is designed with several different workout concepts
  • we deliberately start with certain muscle groups and move throughout the body
  • we are not overworking one area of the body and completely neglecting others

Do I need to wear a cap?

No.

Do I need to know how to swim?

Absolutely not. Many participants do not know how to swim. You can stand next to the wall and use it for support. Any exercise that makes you uncomfortable, ask your instructor for an alternative exercise.

Do I need to wear anything on my feet in the pool?

No -- however some people prefer to wear an aquatic fitness shoe. They range from aqua socks that you would find in any sporting goods store to Ryka water fitness shoe that can be purchased at Sylvia's Swimwear.

We recommend:
Sylvia's Swimwear

Why is water fitness better than other forms of fitness?

When you work out in the water you get two for the price of one. You get both aerobic conditioning and strength training. Water adds extra support for those participants with back or knee problems. As we age our bodies compress and we lose the cushion in our joints. A body that weighs 150 on land, weighs 15 in the water. In the water your weight is lifted off your joints and you move freely with no pain.

Water can be very powerful for those who push their bodies. Water is 12 times the resistance of air, so a movement done in the water is 12 times harder than on land. You are in control of increasing or decreasing this resistance. The harder you push against the water the harder the water will push back.

Can I wear shorts and a t-shirt instead of a bathing suit?

Yes, whatever you are comfortable in.

How much weight am I going to lose?

That is the million-dollar question. Studies have shown that the caloric expenditure is approximately 380 to 440 per hour. However, exercise is only one part of healthy living; you must also maintain a proper eating program. What you will gain is stronger muscles and better cardiovascular health.
